In another source, the Belmont Citizens Forum, a Mass Audubon spokesperson is quoted as recommending "the 'cradle to the grave' accounting of the impacts of different energy sources, meaning that impacts of different energy sources, meaning that impacts such as direct habitat loss from the extraction processes and climate change impacts are tallied along with direct wildlife mortality. Under such an honest accounting, wind energy looks a bit better."

A recent editorial in Sanctuary (Journal of the Massachusetts Audubon Society), Summer 2009, on Mass Audubon and Wind Power explains that the society is involved in research to assess the "potential benefits and detriments of wind power" and that it "supports the responsible planning, permitting, and production of renewable energy resources including wind energy." The vice president for Conservation Science and Ecological Management, Taber Allison, is a member of the federal Wind Turbine Advisory Committee. The editorial closes with "We must all be realists about climate change and the role that wind energy can play now and in the future. To borrow from Bob Dylan, Is it possible that the answer is blowin' in the wind?"
Also, methods for keeping bats away from turbines are apparently being studied in Tom Kunz's Boston University lab.
